Hey, you! Welcome to Uptosnuffvino.com.

Let's just get this out of the way: I'm not a robot, and this isn't a press release. We're starting this publication with a little brain dump—a "state of the affairs" address, if you will. Honestly, I'm still figuring out the voice for this place, so bear with me while we find our footing together.

I'm  The Happy Hour Host, and I'm here to introduce you to the glorious world of wine but in a no-snob, no-sommelier way. (And yes, we'll probably get into other crazy liquids, solids, and gases, too.) We'll be sippin', swirlin', and having a good time with friends. But this is also a place for me to work through the conversations in my head and the struggles—both internal and external—that we all deal with. Just like a good basketball game or a perfectly-timed song, I want this to be a space where you feel seen and heard, and maybe even find someone who gets it.

Essentially, this is a space for all the things that make life worth living: the perfect glass of wine, the song that gets stuck in your head, and the thrill of a good game/concert/experience. But it's also a space to talk about the things that make life tough, and how we find wellness and our way through the chaos. Ultimately, this is a place to get inspired, to find that next thing you want to experience with the people who matter most. We'll be breaking down everything from wine & spirits experiences to iconic or new albums to legendary players, and you'll find reviews, instructions, history here —but think of me as your personal tester and host. My job is to share the highlights and lowlights of an experience, so you can decide if it's right for you. I'll take the lead, and you can come along for the ride.

So, what's my soundtrack for all this? While my last big night out was catching Karan Aujla in Oakland and LA, tonight's soundtrack is a little more chill. I've got Amrinder Gill's Sons’ album, Two of a Kind, on repeat—specifically "Dooriyan" and "Searching." And of course Karan Bhargava's New Single, "Shaam." It's the perfect upbeat & senti backdrop for getting this whole thing started.

Acknowledgments (Because I Was Forced To)

A massive thank you to my brother, my cousins, Alejandra J., Mickey S., Christina T., Puneet D., my rooftop homies (Bryce W., Baljot S., and Robert L.), Simran K., Bryan C., Justin D., Chandana K., Richie R., and last, but not least Juan-tertainment L. You all basically told me to shut up and start writing. You've never once made fun of my dreams, just me. I honestly couldn't have started this letter without you. A special thanks to my current live entertainment, Lauren M. and Garry N., for putting up with me long enough to get this thing finished. You deserve a medal. Or at least a free drink.

And to my entire family and chosen family: thank you for being the first to endure my "new experiences," reviews, and directionless projects. I appreciate you for feigning interest.

Finally, to all the new friends I've made while chasing down wine lists, terrible bar specials, and live music acts—thanks for the memories and for pretending that you've known me forever. You’re all the best kind of bad influence.

I’m incredibly lucky to have you all, but a massive thank you to you, the reader, for checking out this half-built mess of a channel. It's only a matter of time before they start making fun of you, too.

Here's a look at what we've got in the works for you:

  • Food and Drink Pairings: Juan's taking on the challenge of pairing wine with fast food, and Bryce and Baljot are tackling a soju tasting with some serious hot fried chicken.

  • New Article: Look out for "A California State of Mind: From Freeze Response to Fall Flights," our next big "brain dump."

  • More of Everything: Expect more on wine, spirits, basketball, and music. We're also working on adding more photos and video to the site.
